This pad protects everything (unless you spill liquid over it). It is a simple plastic mat from Ikea (one of my favorite places). We use it for the kids when they color and/or draw. Anything that bleeds through or paint going off the paper, simply wipe down with a cleaning solution and it is brand spanking new. My kids love this. And as my son has a heavy hand when he wrights he uses this for homework to protect denting the table. We have had paint, markers, pumpkin carving, and cutting on these for years and they have stood the test of time.

I highly recommend this product if you have young ones. Makes clean up a breeze and you don;t have to worry about where they want to be creative. Table or floor, this gives a sturdy surface for it all.
